Questions raised about new sup

My reactions to the computer picture of the new Tesco? (Chronicle, June 10).

It's 'groan' - that's not just my views, but may I just put out some of the questions raised from members of Transition Twerton? Okay. Most of the foliage out front has vanished. Will they still get to do a rooftop garden thing? The front gate of Saint Peter's Church has also vanished and there are no litter bins in the picture.

We question the wisdom of adding the new lay-by for the buses right on top of the crossroads.

TWO gardeners from Newent have been given the Royal seal of approval at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Many of you may have grasped the chance to see the garden when it was open for Christian Aid last month. One grumble that is sometimes raised (not by my neighbours) when collections are made for Christian Aid is that charity should begin at home. Well, from June 17, in Newent, so it does. At least, it begins from the rear of the Shambles complex, off Court Lane. It's an emergency food scheme whereby vouchers, issued by a range of local agencies, can be exchanged for up to three days' emergency supplies of food and other items. It is NOT a scroungers' charter. Our welfare state safety net has gaps in it - and this scheme aims to fill the gaps for people in the Newent area.

Donations Where does the food come from? Donations which are left at various collection points throughout the town. Duquesne basketball parts with

The Duquesne University men's basketball team lost its fourth player and second coach this year, announcing Thursday the departures of reserve guard Chase Robinson and assistant coach Scott Rigot.

WARRANT ARREST

Deputies were investigating a disturbance call in the 10200 block of Old Hammock Way when a records search showed that the man they were questioning had an outstanding battery warrant. He was arrested.

DRUG POSSESSION

A deputy tried to stop a 19-year-old man in the 13800 block of Wellington Trace for a bicycle violation, but he refused to stop. He was arrested for resisting arrest without violence. He was searched and 0.7 grams of cocaine were found. He was also charged with drug possession.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY

VEHICLE BURGLARY

Two cellphones, a digital camera, a necklace, $30 in cash and several credit cards were stolen from a truck in the 10900 block of Okeechobee Boulevard. The burglar was seen on surveillance camera circling the parking lot before burglarizing the vehicle.

A revolver was stolen from the glove compartment of a car in the 100 block of State Road 7.
