Gardens fit for Royalty

TWO gardeners from Newent have been given the Royal seal of approval at the Chelsea Flower Show.

The Royal party praised the L'Occitane Garden and Kebony's Naturally Norway.

At the L'Occitane garden, which captures the essence of Provence, Princess Michael of Kent was so impressed she called over several members of her party to join her.

The garden, also built by Peter, won silver-gilt flora.

Chris Beardshaw Scholarship student Paul Hervey-Brookes was also celebrating as his Bradstone Biodiversity Garden picked up a silver flora medal in the urban garden category.

Chris, said: "His beautiful garden at Chelsea is a testament to his hard work and attention to detail."

Newent-based Paul, who runs a nursery at Painswick Rococo Garden, said: "There's no other show that makes you feel like you've been connected to the mains electricity and once you've tasted that it's very difficult to give it up."

Meanwhile, Newent's Peter Dowle, who built the Norwegian garden, said the Queen was impressed with the peonies at the front.
