FIVE-time champions Mayfair are back where they want to be, at the top of Division One in the Scunthorpe Riley's Tuesday Pool League.

Five games without defeat since the season opened has seen skipper Terry McCarthy and his men move two frames ahead of Poacher A in the title race.

Mayfair are back in business after adding two new signings, Cameron Dunlop and Gavin Best, to the side which finished in fourth place last season and lost a third of their 18 matches.

Best and Dunlop proved they have restored confidence to the ex- champions by steering Mayfair to a convincing 6-0 rout in the singles against Ashdown Gs.

It's happy days for the Mayfair as their second-string - now known as Rileys TTs - jumped five frames ahead in the Division Two championship stakes.

The TTs were helped by a set-back for their rivals Priory Pokerstars, who lost their unbeaten start to the season to Malt Shovel.

It proved an unlucky round for the Priory Hotel as the previously unbeaten Hurricanes came a cropper against Cundy Crusaders to allow St Bernadette's to build up a three-frame lead in Division Six.

But it's all guns-a-blazing at the camp of the Sherpa Sharks, who are one of seven unbeaten sides left in the league and the top scorers, averaging more than seven frames per match so far this season.

A 9-1 win over Polish A put them 10 frames clear in Division Four.
