Huge reponse to our baby and t

Well over 100 smiling tots and beaming babies were at their cherubic best last Thursday as they entered The Cornishman's Baby and Toddler of the Year competition.

Queues stretched out of the door and around the corner at Tesco in Penzance as eager parents with their offspring waited for the chance to appear in the paper and win a top prize of Pounds 200 and a trophy.

A total of 131 babies and toddlers were pictured on the day - making Penzance one of the busiest spots in the country for the competition.

While some were hopeful of coming first, everyone was happy to be professionally photographed, with the snap capturing their children and giving parents a timeless memento of their little one's early years.

Cornishman editor Jacqui Walls was amazed by the turn-out.

She said: "We're really happy so many parents brought their beautiful babies and entered the competition.

"People were queuing around the corner but nobody seemed to mind.

"The children seemed to be smiling from the moment they got here right through till they had their picture taken. I can't wait to see the results."

Mother Charlene Steadman, Tiffanys Heart with her four-month-old baby Bobby, said: "I think it's exciting.

"When Bobby is older I will be able to show him his first ever picture that appeared in The Cornishman. It will be something he can have forever in his keepsake box."

Fern Walton, with 17-month-old Kayden, said: "I'm not looking to win; he is the best baby of this and every year to me. I just wanted to get a great picture taken of him.

"One day when he is older I'll be able to get the paper out and show his girlfriends how he used to be."

The results will appear as part of a special supplement appearing in the Cornishman on July 22.
